Every four years, the Berks County Democratic Committee reorganizes.  And 2026 is a reorganization year!

All committeepersons must run for their seats this year. Additionally, at our committee meeting in June, we will elect four officers: Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer plus six at‑large board members, for a total of ten Executive Board positions. If you’d like to run for the Executive Board, you must be a member of the committee unless you are running for Chair or Treasurer.

If you wish to remain an active member of the committee, you may serve as either a Precinct Committeeperson or a Delegate‑at‑Large.

 Key Differences

  • Precinct Committeepersons (PCP) are elected by Democratic voters in their precinct during the primary and may vote in the June reorganization.

  • Delegates‑at‑Large (DAL) are appointed by the County Committee, they cannot vote in the June reorganization, and are voted in by the newly reorganized committee in August.

Both roles share the same rights, responsibilities, and attendance requirements. Bylaws require gender balance, with updates underway to include non‑binary members.

Petition Season

As the 2026 primary cycle begins, all prospective PCPs must gather signatures on a nomination petition to appear on the ballot. Each precinct has two gender‑balanced seats.

To qualify for the ballot, submit:

  • A petition with at least 10 signatures from registered Democrats in your precinct (15 recommended and of course, you may sign your own), and

  • A notarized Candidate Affidavit. (Notary will be available at the office free of charge on Sunday, March 8th from 3 - 5pm.  We will happily deliver your completed paperwork to Election Services on Monday, March 9th.)

Delegates‑at‑Large will be voted in by the full committee in August.

Detailed petition‑circulation instructions will follow soon. Petition signing runs February 17–March 10.
