Supervisors Lauren Robertson and Dawn Geswendt on why you should run for office.

Run for Office

Thinking about running for office? You’re in the right place!

If you’ve landed on this page, it means something in you is already leaning toward leadership. Whether you’re curious, concerned, frustrated, or think “someone needs to fix this,” public service is one of the most meaningful ways to help your community.

When you feel strongly about something, it’s the clearest sign you want to be in the room where the decisions are made. The Berks County Democratic Committee is here to help you explore your options and help you decide whether running for office is the right next step for you.

Our party needs people who show up for their neighbors, who believe in fairness, and who want a democracy that actually works for working families.

If that sounds like you, you’re already more qualified than you think.

Choosing the right office

Where you serve depends on where your energy pulls you but every level matters.  Some people find their place at the local level on a school board, township board, or city council where decisions shape daily life in immediate, tangible ways. Others feel called to the state level, shaping policy as a state representative or state senator. And some people feel called to the federal stage like the U.S. House or Senate not because they’re insiders, but because they know their community deserves someone who will walk into those halls and fight for them with the same honesty and determination they bring to every organizing meeting back home.

Think about your interests, your strengths, your availability, and the issues that motivate you. There’s a place for every kind of leader.
